However, if a treatment is required to improve nasal function and breathing, rhinoplasty can be performed and have positive improvement.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty / Nose job surgery

It is best to consult an expert before moving ahead with any kind of treatment. When your surgeon examines your medical history and medications, he/she would be able to reflect on whether the nose job surgery is suitable or not.

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed by the following steps:

Anesthesia

Your doctor will use local or general anesthesia. If it’s a simple procedure, you’ll be given local anesthesia in your nose, which will numb your face. You may also get medicine through an IV line that will make you drowsy, but you will still be awake.

The incision

Rhinoplasty is performed using either a closed procedure, where the incisions are hidden inside the nose or an open procedure, where an incision is made in the columella, the tissue that separates the nostrils.

Through these incisions, the skin covering the bones and cartilage of the nose is gently lifted, allowing the nose structure to reshape.

Reshaping the nose structure

An overly large nose’s size can be reduced by removing bone or cartilage. Sometimes nasal surgery may require the addition of cartilage grafts.

Typically, cartilage from the septum, the division down the middle of the nose, is used for this purpose. Sometimes the cartilage from the ear or rarely a portion of the rib cartilage may be used.

Correcting a deviated septum: If the septum has deviated, it may be straightened and the projections inside the nose may be lowered to improve breathing.
Closing the incision: Once the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape, the skin and tissue of the nose are remodeled and the incisions are closed. Additional incisions may be made in the natural crease of the nostrils to change their shape.
